Foundation For Nature is developing a new global Ratings Framework for nature restoration

We are proud to announce an exciting new initiative for the natural capital sector - a global Ratings Agency dedicated to evaluating nature restoration projects.

The new Foundation For Nature Ratings Framework will showcase high integrity and best-in-class projects to give investors confidence that they are making choices that are positive for nature, financially robust, ethical and equitable.

Led by established experts, including former executives from Environment Bank, Plantlife and Natural England, our framework will drive nature’s recovery at a critical juncture for the planet.

We are also launching our Foundation For Nature Consultancy, offering industry-leading strategic support to the global nature restoration sector.

Addressing a Critical Need

“Approximately 55 per cent of global GDP is reliant on nature, yet global biodiversity is declining at an alarming rate,” explains Professor David Hill CBE from Foundation For Nature. “There is limited time left to deliver effective nature recovery across the planet. Public and philanthropic funds alone cannot meet the scale of effective nature recovery needed.”

The development of Foundation For Nature's high-integrity Ratings Framework comes at a crucial time. By ensuring the best possible ecological outcomes with financial robustness, excellent governance, transparency and community engagement, Foundation For Nature will facilitate the flow of essential finance for rebuilding nature.

What the ‘Foundation For Nature’ Framework Will Achieve

The market for nature restoration is growing exponentially. Foundation For Nature’s Ratings Framework will build and accelerate momentum for nature restoration and natural capital projects.

Our Ratings Framework for nature projects will enable informed choices by investors, buyers and sellers demanding a nature-positive society, leading to:

  • De-risking investments

  • Improved decision-making

  • Reporting with confidence

  • Accessing cost-effective finance

  • Unlocking higher financial returns

  • Meaningful community engagement

65 per cent of Foundation For Nature’s profit will be reinvested to further support nature recovery and community benefits.
